Image source: iStockPhoto<\/em><\/p>\n “It will not be long before our trees are laced with web worms.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve already started to see some web worms when I\u2019m out and about, they are starting to show up in the area,\u201d Kelly McGowan, the Field Horticultural Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, said.<\/p>\n McGowan said closer to fall, the trees will have more webbing on them. Right now, the caterpillars are small.<\/p>\n \u201cSome years we\u2019ve had it where the trees look like ghosts, they\u2019re so laced with web worm webs,\u201d Noel Boyer, the owner of All About Trees, said.<\/p>\n Before the worms form those ghost-like webs, you may see the caterpillars on the tips of tree branches.<\/p>\n \u201cOnce these little caterpillars start to feed on the foliage of the plant, they will expand their webbing and take in more foliage,\u201d McGowan said,<\/p>\n Web worms won\u2019t permanently damage your trees, they are just unsightly.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you just can\u2019t stand it, they can be sprayed,\u201d Boyer said.<\/p>\n
